Mission Schedule

The first group leaves Wesley UMC, Bloomington, at 6:00 A.M. in a church van to Chicago O'Hare on Sat., Jan. 15. We fly first to Houston and from there to Managua. There are two mission weeks scheduled. The first week a group of 12 will work on building a fence at Los Cedros orphanage in the lowlands near Managua. I will be with that group.
A second group of 10 or 12 flies down to continue the construction work another week, and a medical team scheduled to hold clinics in the mountainous, coffee-growing region near Jinotega also flies down on Fri., Jan. 21st. I will join that group the second week. The medical team consists of 19 persons, 11 of whom are medical professionals--doctors, nurses, and pharmacists. My job will be primarily photography. The medical team will hold 5 free clinics for the Nicaraguan people, returning to fly home out of Managua on Sat., Jan. 29. The second construction team flies home on Sun., Jan. 30.

Line outside a clinic waiting to see a medical professional and receive free medicine along with free clothing and other items.
Dr. Tim working with a patient. This clinic was held outdoors under palm trees or temporary shelters.
One of the clinics took place at a new concrete block church with no windows and a dirt floor.
Dr. Tim again with a patient. Say "Ahhh."
Back at Los Cedros members of the medical team inspect the handiwork of the construction team which has the walls completed, but the roof isn't on yet. That would be completed by a later mission team.
I am learning how to do this "blog," so I have started it early, so I can experiment with posting photographs. The first photos I am posting are some I took on the 2008 and 2009 mission trips. Those above are from 2008. Tomorrow I'll post a few from 2009.
